How changes to Shopify and Mailchimp might affect your customer loyalty program

One of the biggest announcements in ecommerce has been the recent news that Mailchimp are discontinuing their integration with Shopify. Though you are still able to download Mailchimp for your Shopify store today, by mid-May the integration will no longer work.

How will these changes to Shopify and Mailchimp’s integration affect your loyalty program?

If you are currently using our integration with Mailchimp to power loyalty emails for your Shopify store, then the newsletter sign up rule within LoyaltyLion will start to work slightly differently. Your customers will still be able to get loyalty points for signing up to a newsletter. However, receiving points for signing up for the mailing list via a prompt onsite will no longer be possible.

The Shopify and Mailchimp sync will also only work with the use of a 3rd-party app going forwards, and you may need to explore alternative ways to connect your store in future.

If you have any questions about how these changes will affect your loyalty program, please do reach out to and we’ll do our best to help! If you’re still trying to decide on an email provider, then our integrations page might give you some inspiration.
